14 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Devotional Outline

Purpose: To grow in our faith and get closer to God by learning about Jesus through the Gospel of Mark.

Big Idea - We can get closer to God in our spiritual Journey if we know and understand who Jesus was, how he acted, how he responded, what he was about, and what he wants for us. Essentially this is discipleship.  

Day 1 - Mark Chapter 1 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus is the Gospel (Good News) and represents Good News. 1:14-15

2. Jesus understood rest and beckons us to rest. 1:35-39 (Sabbath, Yoke)

3. Jesus was willing and is still willing to heal. - 1:40-42

Day 2 - Mark Chapter 2 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus was not afraid to address negativity. 2:5-12

2. Jesus didn’t discriminate in whom he ministered to. 2:13-17

3. Jesus promoted relationship not just religious rituals. 2:22-27

Day 3 - Mark Chapter 3 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus was charismatic (magnetic personality) 3:7-8

2. Jesus was relational and embraced community 3:13:20

3. Jesus had authority and gave authority 3:14-16

Day 4 - Mark Chapter 4-5 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus told stories to draw people in and make a point 

2. Jesus had faith and spoke about faith a lot

3. Jesus wasn’t too busy to minister to those in need. 

Day 5 - Mark Chapter 6 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus was not forceful with his ministry 6:1-5

2. Jesus was a great leader 6:6-12

3. Jesus performed miracle and met the needs of the people, physically, emotionally and spiritually. 6:30-56

Day 6 - Mark Chapter 7 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus knew the scriptures 7:1-8

2. Jesus spoke about the heart and holiness. 7:1-23

3. Jesus rewarded faith 7:24-30

Day 7 - Mark Chapter 8-9 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus always met people where they were and met their needs. 8:1-13

2. Jesus gave motivation to to his followers. 8:34-38

3. Jesus teaches about holiness and tolerance

Day 8 - Mark Chapter 10 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus was passionate about family

2. Jesus was passionate about money

3. Jesus was passionate about serving

Day 9 - Mark Chapter 11 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus fulfilled prophecy - On the donkey 

2. Jesus stirred up controversy - Politics 

3. Jesus speaks again about prayer and faith 11:20-25

Day 10 - Mark Chapter 12 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus cared about order and laws 12:13-17

2. Jesus spoke about resurrection 12:18-27

3. Jesus spoke about the greatest Commandment 12:28-34  

Day 11 - Mark Chapter 13 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus spoke about the end time (be prepared)

2. Jesus was prepared to give his life

3. Jesus told parables to prove points

Day 12 - Mark Chapter 14 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus teaches servanthood and other powerful things 12:1-11

2. Communion 14:12-26

3. Jesus is anxious but persistent - 14:32-41

Day 13 - Mark Chapter 15 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus had a purpose 15:1-10

2. Jesus was mocked

3. Jesus gave his life for us

Day 14 - Mark Chapter 16 - Today we can get closer to God by understanding:

1. Jesus was resurrected 

2. Jesus had a testimony

3. Jesus gave the great commission.
