GHOST, The Holy Spirit Study pt. 1

The Presence of the Holy Spirit

Theme: Who the Holy Spirit is and why His presence matters
Core Scripture: Titus 3:3-5 KJV; John 14:16–17 ESV

Opening Quote:

The church that is man-managed instead of God-governed is doomed to failure; A ministry that is college-trained but not Spirit-filled works no miracles. – Leonard Ravenhill

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Not a ghost or force, but a person and a presence

One of the three persons of the Trinity:

God the Father

God the Son (Jesus)

God the Holy Spirit

📖 Genesis 1:2 (KJV) – The Spirit of God was present at creation.
📖 Titus 3:3–5 (KJV) – The Spirit regenerates and renews.
📖 John 14:16–17 (ESV) – The Spirit dwells with and in you.

Key Biblical Words:
- Hebrew: ruwach – wind; breath; violent exhalation
- Greek: pneuma – current of air; breeze; spirit
- Greek: parakletos – helper; intercessor; advocate; comforter

“The Spirit is not a concept, but a person and a presence.”

WHY DO MANY LIVE SPIRIT-LESS?

Unaware – Acts 19:2 (ESV) – “We haven’t even heard…”

Resistant – Acts 7:51 (ESV) – “You always resist the Holy Spirit.”

WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES:

Comforts You – John 14:16 (ESV)

Counsels You – John 16:13; Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)

Convicts You – John 16:8 (ESV)

“The Holy Spirit as the presence of God is the only power that can truly comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” – Leonard Ravenhill

ANALOGIES:

Salvation without the Spirit’s power is like:

Having a bed but sleeping on the porch

Wearing a watch but using a sundial

Winning the lottery but never cashing the ticket.
